3. Udacity

Udacity is a for-profit educational organization founded by Sebastian Thrun, David Stavens, and Mike Sokolsky offering massive open online courses (MOOCs). Udacity is the outgrowth of free computer science classes offered in 2011 through Stanford University. According to Thrun, the origin of the name Udacity comes from the company's desire to be "audacious for you, the student". While it originally focused on offering university-style courses, it now focuses more on vocational courses for professionals.

2. Coursera

Coursera is a venture-backed, education-focused technology company founded by Stanford professors Andrew Ngand Daphne Koller that offers online courses and is based in Mountain View, CA. Coursera works with universities and other organizations to offer online courses, specializations, and degrees in a variety of subjects, such as engineering, humanities, medicine, biology, social sciences, mathematics, business, computer science, digital marketing, data science, and others. As of October 2017, Coursera had more than 28 million registered users and more than 2,000 courses.

edX is a massive open online course (MOOC) provider. It hosts online university-level courses in a wide range of disciplines to a worldwide student body, including some courses at no charge. It also conducts research into learning based on how people use its platform. edX differs from other MOOC providers, such as Coursera and Udacity, in that it is a nonprofit organization and runs on the free Open edX open-source software platform. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University created edX in May 2012. More than 70 schools, nonprofit organizations, and corporations offer or plan to offer courses on the edX website. As of 29 December 2016, edX has around 10 million students taking more than 1,270 courses online.

A team has found that a combination of dasatinib – a leukaemia drug – and quercetin – an extract from apple peel – can make elderly mice live 36% longer. They usually start appearing in the human body in our 60s, although they can arise much earlier in people who are obese or experience a chronic disease. Some have suggested that these cells kick the ageing process into action. Now James Kirkland of the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and his colleagues have shown that this does seem to be the case. When they injected small numbers of senescent cells into young, 6-month-old mice, their speed, endurance and strength fell by 20-50% within a few weeks, sinking to the level of a typical elderly, 2-year-old mouse.
