Software in Front of Electrical Engineer

Software is a collection of instructions given by the user to a machine (Computer), to solve the complex problems at short period. The best part of software is how it is integrated with hardware, i.e., computer.

A computer is a physical network which connects a data importer, data processor, data storage, data analyzer and information exporter. This logical network was built using millions of electronic components powered by electrical energy.

Many of us may admire that how the electrical energy performs logical operations but it does, from our childhood studies we know that machine language is an ancestor of present programs. The machine language was developed using binary digits “0 and 1” which represents OFF and ON respectively.

We may doubt, how switching ON and OFF operations can solve logical problems. We also use switch at our home and performing ON and OFF operations it means we can also do logical operations at our home by using the switch, yes we can do, let us see the below example.

Example 1: Our aim is to display letter A
Arrange a grid of light with switch in a matrix manner with rows and column then determine the lights to be turned ON to display letter “A” refer the image below. From above method to display “A” some switch will be ON position and some will be in OFF, note the sequence in a paper considering ON as 1 and 0 as OFF, you may get a sequence like 00100010101011111000100010001001

Example 1: Grid of lights displaying “A”
From above example we may find difficult to display your name with switches and lights so we need special switch to perform and control this operation, hence transistor invented. Transistor is a device which controls switching operations (To know more about transistor comment below). Later transistor was improved to many other semiconductor devices like MOSFET, BJT, etc.
